from nbc bay area, this is today in the bay. and a good friday morning, it's 4:30, i'm sam brock. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. first let's go to christina loren, hey good morning. >> good morning, it's friday, we're feeling good, hopefully you are too. 58 degrees in the south bay. san francisco kicking off the day at a comfortable 57 on your way to 73 degrees in the city. although it's going to be warm in your inland hot spots. we are not going to extend this heat much further. one of the weekend days looking better than the other. we'll dive in the forecast coming up in just a few minutes. right now mike has a day off. allegedly he'll be back on

monday my friends. hopefully that'll be the case. eastbound bay bridge, down to one lane. this is due to construction. you've got one lane all the way from treasure island down to thele to plaza, and this is going to surprise commuters this morning. give yourself extra time. count on a delay. the good news is once you get past the construction, you're right back up to speed. we'll keep you updated, back to you sam and laura. >> christina, thank you so much. international strife continues. car bomb targeting lebanon's head of security exploded at a police check point hours ago. emergency responders are still helping victims, the red cross told nbc two people were killed, 20 more injured. investigators say the bomb was attended to kill the head of security, but went off after he passed by. also new this morning, a lot of the violence in lebanon has spilled over from the civil war in syria. this morning alone, 34 people were killed in a car bombing in central syria about an hour and a half south of eleppo.

the number of dead and injured willed rise. syrian leaders are looking into the attack and have not released details like what the target was. it is now in its fourth year killed more than 160,000 people. this according to opposition activists. nearly a third of the victims reportedly were civilians. 300 u.s. military advisers are headed to iraq to help deal with the country's internal conflict. they are near constant battle with militants who have close ties to syria and al qaeda. the american military advisers will reportedly help iraq's military choose targets, but they will not fight. >> that does not foreshadow a larger commitment of troops to actually fight in iraq. that would not be effective. >> foreign military intervention, especially if led by the united states will only harden the resolve of the

radicals and unite the motivated. >> president obama decided to hold off on air strikes for now. that is getting mixed reaction on capitol hill. >> once again, he's announced step a without thinking through the consequences of step b. >> there's the beginning of an outline of what i will hope will be a concrete plan we can all rally around. >> the fiercest battles continue at oil refineries raising fears that it will soon affect gas prices here at home. half a million iraqis have been forced out of their homes or left in fear. the u.s. pledged more than $12 million in humanitarian aid. sam. . >> so unsettling, thanks laura. now to a developing story, investigators spent much of the night searching for bullet casings and other clues in the parking lot of a concert. this is near denver. the red rocks amphitheater was shut down late last night after somebody started shooting in the

parking lot. three people were wounded. authorities locked down the parking lot and every car was searched before leaving. the shooter though is still on the run. >> my friend, they got a -- they got pretty emotional and choked up by it. they didn't understand. if somebody was on the loose and harm us since we were walking down there. >> it was a rap concert featuring several acts including headliner, nas, the victim's conditions are unknown. investigators say they do not know if the victim's have a prior relationship with the shooter. waiting for more on that. three hour amber alert was called off. an eight-year-old was taken from the sunniville santa clara area late last night. she was safely dropped off at the sunniville police department three hours later. now police are still looking for her alleged kidnapper, jose valencia. no relation on he and the girl.

the car was found shortly after the amber alert was issued. lawyers expected redwood city woman accused of driving drunk and crashing into a couple to be back in court today. her blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit when she hit and killed the two as they walked their dog in the menlo park. she later crashed into a tree. the woman is still in custody. the court appearance has been delayed several times since her arrest. jurors in oakland have a decision to make. any day they could hand down a verdict in two alleged gang members say killed a three-year-old boy during a drive bishooting. willie torrence is accused of driving the car and lawrence denard is said to pull the trigger. the men were trying to get revenge on the rival gang when the little boy was shot. they rushed to make arrests because of community outrage over the boy's death.

now to a "today in the bay" follow-up, a judge is getting prosecutors more time to investigate the woman was accused of choking a 12-year-old boy in santa rosa. she was in court yesterday, but no charges were filed. she is accused of grabbing a child by the neck because she thought he was bullying her daughter. she only confronted the boy and leave her daughter alone. she'll be back in court next month. san bruno police released surveillance video of a robbery. it happened on san mateo avenue. you can see the suspect wearing all black, talking to a clerk there. he reportedly told that clerk he had a bomb and demanded juld ri. the clerk told him the police were on the way, he just took off. san jose police officers say a staffing policy will be dangerous for them and the public. the unprecedented policy requires officers to work overtime so staffing levels can be met. the department announced the

plan yesterday when overtime is needed, volunteers will be asked first. if there's still a shortage. some will be required to work up to three extra hours on patrol. but the officer's union argues that overtime leads to stress and tired officers. this morning governor brown is expected to sign the state's $108 billion budget plan. this plan includes $7 million to help fund suicide nets along the golden gate bridge. also calls for programs supporting preschool, home care givers, and welfare to work grab thes as well as using 25% of the cap and trade revenues for the controversial high speed rail program. also focuses on paying down the state's debt and building up a rainy day fund. fire investigators are trying to figure out the cause of a grass fire that destroyed two homes in the foothills. firefighters say conditions were perfect for a wild fire. it was hot and dry with bursts of strong wind. neighbors say they first saw smoke coming from a vacant home yesterday afternoon. the flames quickly spread to

another house and surrounding brush. all of of this was near the 680/280 interchange in the foothills. 17 engines jumped on the fire hitting it from the air and the ground. people who live in the neighborhood were prepared of making sure they had defensible space around their homes. >> you're going to be the first detector of your house. they're going to be 10 minutes away, 156 minutes away, by then your house could be gone. >> thankfully nobody was hurt. i want to check the forecast now at 4:38, it's early, but the it is friday morning. how are we looking, christina? >> yes, it is friday. you know what, we have a good day. it's going to be hot today. i have to point that out to you right off the bat in your inland valley spots, if you work in san francisco, you live near the water, just gorgeous conditions. they're going to persist yet again for you today. that means 73 degrees in san francisco. meanwhile about 91 degrees in the east bay. you can see the stack-up here at

headaches will ensue for san francisco yans. one of the most popular tourists attractions is shutting down for the weekend. lom bard street will be closed on weekends from noon too 6:00 p.m. until july 13th. it'll also be closed on friday, july 4th. this is part of a pilot program put into place after people complained about traffic in the area. after the temporary closures. city leaders will decide if the tourist say traction should be shut down on a more regular basis. >> i think the walking path is still open though so you can hoof it. >> yeah plus how can you come to san francisco and not see lom bard street? still ahead, shifting the search. we're going to tell you where investigators are looking for the wreck anl of the missing malaysia airline jet. people may shoon notice something new on the gas pump. the warning label stirring up controversy this morning, that's next. nbc bay area, honored with three national awards for excellence in breaking news coverage, feature reporting, and

mountain this morning. kind of gives you a different perspective. just in case you're not up, way up there early this morning. 4:43. new details on the search nor the malaysian airlines jet miss aing for three and a half months now. investigators say the next phase of the underwater search will focus on an area hundreds of miles south of the first suspected crash site in the indian ocean. underwater drone skourped nearly 350 miles of the ocean floor last month closer to australia, but found nothing. the new search will use more powerful sonar equipment and will be based on refined analysis of satellite information. the state medical board subpoena investigating claims that female prison inmates may have been sterilized without giving their con sent. a report found 39 cases in which inmates may not have understood they were agreeing to medical procedures that would leave them sterile. state law requires them when millionly necessary but not a method of birth control.

the report found between 2006 and 2013144 women were sterilized for the soul purpose of birth control. in san francisco, city leaders are expected to announce a proposal to stop marketing e-cigarettes to teens this morning. jackie spear will introduce the proposal in front of san francisco's general hospital. now that issue has been talked about on capitol hill this week as politicians slammed e-cigarette companies for luring teens with targeted ads. new study this morning reveals a smoker's risk of lung cancer may be linked to the time of day he or she child abuses to light up. current and former smokers in the u.s. and italy. those who waited at least one hour to smoke after waking up in the morning were significant less likely to develop lung cancer than those who began earlier. no difference between men and women in that regard. 4:45, berkeley could become the first city in the country to require warning stickers about climate change on all gas pumps.

berkeley city councilman chris worthington came up with the idea. the warning signs that are on mini pumps are to remind people to clean up the environment. critics say the signs infringe on consumer's first amendment rights. >> what exactly are consumer's supposed to do with the information that the city of berkeley is suggesting the forced upon service station operator? >> the state of california suggested that greenhouse gases are a serious problem and global warming needs to be addressed. maybe question do things that are alternative like public transit and alternative transportation. >> the proposal has overwhelming support from city leaders in the city council could vote on it by the fall. following apple's lead, microsoft and google say they will add kill switches to operating systems, for more on that before the bell this friday

morning, let's say good friday morning to jackie deangelis, she's live at the world headquarters, hi jackie. >> reporter: hi, good friday morning to you as well. we're watching the futures because its been interesting for the market. lower open on wall street. i meant interesting week that is. that tells you how close to the weekend we are. anyway, after the dow s&p posted small gains on thursday rising far fifth straight day. the s&p 500 closing at another record high yesterday. this is a day after the federal reserve reassured investors and signaling that rates will stay low as the economy recovers. they didn't retook the positive data yesterday on unemployment and manufacturing. that was a little surprising, but the dow rising 14 points to 14,921, nasdaq to 4359. may be time for tim cook and dick tracy to shake hands. apple's asian suppliers will start smasz production on the long awaited smart watch next

sessions each. full contact practice would also be banned during the offseason. condition and drills would not be counted as part of the restrictions. the idea is to reduce the number of brain injuries and concussions, but some coaches say california kids will not be able to compete with players from out of state who have unlimited, full contact practices and better skillsets. >> many of them can't afforded to go to school. if this is going to hurt our chances for our kids to make a scholarship opportunity, then i think we have to be careful about it. it would be unfair. >> again the concussion issue, a major one in high school and college and professional athletics, all of this as policy makers try to figure out how to address it. we'll stay tuned to that. it is now 4:51, warriors one step closer to landing one of the league's biggest names. could cost them a rising star. we'll have the rising star. >> clay thompson always gets his name involved. in the men time, live look
